The Project

SVA MFA Computer Art emphasizes creative experimentation and a multidisciplinary approach to making art with computers and emerging technologies. Dedicated to producing digital artists of the highest caliber, the department guides each student in the development of a personal artistic style in a course of study that is individually tailored to meet his or her needs. Students come from around the world to study in this MFA program, which has distinguished itself with eight Student Academy Awards.  A major component of successful completion of this program is the final thesis -- which spans the course of the second year from ideation and research, to script writing and storyboard to a final piece to be displayed in the end of year thesis exhibit at the SVA Chelsea Gallery.

"Birkenstocks" is a playful, celebration of the classic shoes and their rise to popularity. This motion graphics style piece takes inspiration from past and present  -- from Monty Python collage style animation to psychedelic graphics of the 60s and 70s to music videos. The piece loosely details the history of the shoes from their conception in 1774 to today where Birkenstocks are a footwear staple with everyone from toddlers to supermodels embracing the shoes.
